Catholics Under Attack By Uninformed Sources...Again!

The following letter was published in the Elkhart Truth last week. In light of the amount of disinformation of Catholic doctrine being propogated lately (can you say "Pelosi"?), this man deserves an answer...maybe thousands of them.

Mary was a good woman but shouldn't be glorified

I was appalled by the Aug. 8 letter sent in by Sue A. Powell, "Rosary isn't entertainment." I would like Ms. Powell to show me from scripture where it says that the rosary is sacred and holy.

The rosary is nothing more than a string of beads introduced into the Catholic church, tradition says, either by Peter the Hermit in 1090 A.D. or by St. Dominic in 1214. The rosary consists of 55 beads and for each bead one prayer is offered up, five to God and 50 to Mary. Pure and simple, this is idolatry.

Mary never expected such worship to be lavished on her. Mary called herself "a bondslave of the Lord," (Luke 1:38) and she also called God her savior (Luke 1:47). If God is her savior, then that means she was a sinner. No one can pray to Mary for salvation or anything else for she has never heard a prayer, never answered a prayer, nor will she ever. Salvation is through Christ and him alone (John 3:16-17). Mary has no redemptive power. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me." (John 14:6)

The Catholic church also says that Mary is one mediator between God and men. Another error! I Timothy 2:5 says "For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." I challenge all Catholics to read the scriptures and discover how little is said about Mary.

Catholic religion claims that their traditions are as binding as scripture. This is nonsense. Jesus condemned the Pharisees for forcing Old Testament law and traditions on the people (all through the New Testament).

I do agree, however, that Mary was a godly and good woman, for if she weren't God never would have chosen her as the vehicle by which he brought his son into the world. But this does not mean that we give her any special honor or glory. God said in Isaiah 42:8, "I will not give my glory to another."
