Too Funny Not To Share

After getting all of Pope Benedicts luggage loaded into the limo, (and he doesnt travel light), the driver notices the Pope is still standing on the curb.
Excuse me, Your Holiness, says the driver, Would you please take your seat so we can leave?
Well, to tell you the truth, says the Pope, they never let me drive at the Vatican when I was a cardinal, and I'd really like to drive today.
Im sorry, Your Holiness, but I cannot let you do that. I'd lose my job! What if something should happen? protests the driver, wishing hed never gone to work that morning..
Who's going to tell? says the Pope with a smile.
Reluctantly, the driver gets in the back as the Pope climbs in behind the wheel. The driver quickly regrets his decision when, after exiting the airport, the Pontiff floors it, accelerating the limo to 205 kph.. (Remember, the Pope is German..)
Please slow down, Your Holiness! pleads the worried driver, but the Pope keeps the pedal to the metal until they hear sirens.
Oh, dear God, Im going to lose my license -- and my job! moans the driver.
The Pope pulls over and rolls down the window as the cop approaches, but the cop takes one look at him, goes back to his motorcycle, and gets on the radio.
I need to talk to the Chief, he says to the dispatcher.
The Chief gets on the radio and the cop tells him that hes stopped a limo going 205 kph.
So bust him, says the Chief.
I don't think we want to do that, he's really important, said the cop.
The Chief exclaimed, All the more reason!
No, I mean really important, said the cop with a bit of persistence.
The Chief then asked, Who do you have there, the mayor?
Cop: Bigger.
Chief: A senator?
Cop: Bigger.
Chief: The Prime Minister?
Cop: Bigger.
Well, said the Chief, who is it?

Cop: I think its God!

The Chief is even more puzzled and curious, What makes you think its God?

Cop: His chauffeur is the Pope!

Regarding Our Lady of America

In light of multiple recent inquiries as to the opinion of Archbishop Raymond Burke and the devotion to Our Lady of America, we are reposting the original letter sent by the Archbishop to his fellow bishops back in 2007. This is the form that has been posted on EWTN's website.

In a letter to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Archbishop Burke, then the Ordinary of St. Louis, Missouri, now Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura, revealed the results of his review of the history and canonical status of devotion to Our Lady of America. See the original letter.

May 31, 2007 — Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

To the Bishops of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops:

Dear brothers in Christ,

During the November meeting of our Conference of Bishops, you may have had occasion to view the statue of Our Lady of America, which was displayed in one of the meeting rooms; and to receive one of the Our Lady of America prayer cards or other information about Our Lady of America, which was available, thanks to the devout lay faithful who made the arrangements for the display of the statue. The faithful involved in the promotion of the devotion to Our Lady of America have asked me, some months ago, to review the history and present state of the devotion to Our Lady of America, in what pertains to its canonical status. Finally, I am able to give them a report of the results of my study, which I want also to communicate to you.

The devotion to Our Lady of America has its source in private revelations to Sister Mary Ephrem (baptized Mildred) Neuzil, who was born in 1916 and was professed, in 1933, in the Congregation of the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus, which has its generalate in Dayton, Ohio. She later became part of a contemplative branch of the same congregation. The contemplative branch was located at Our Lady of the Nativity Convent at New Riegel, Ohio. After the suppression of the contemplative branch in 1979, the Sisters who were members took up residence in Seneca County, Ohio. From the time of the suppression, Sister Mary Ephrem used her baptismal name, Sister Mary Mildred Neuzil. Sister Mary Ephrem (Mary Mildred) died in 2000. One of the Sisters survives and continues to live in Seneca County, Ohio.

Having reviewed the correspondence between Sister Mary Ephrem and her spiritual director of many years, Monsignor Paul F. Leibold, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, who later became the Bishop of Evansville and, then, Archbishop of Cincinnati, it is clear that the devotion, as proposed by Sister Mary Ephrem, received his approbation. In addition to the correspondence by which Monsignor Leibold declared the approval of the devotion, he also carried out the first of Our Lady of America's requests, made through Sister Mary Ephrem, namely, he had a medal struck with the image of Our Lady of America on one side and the coat of arms of the Christian family on the other.

The coat of arms symbolically represents the substance of the private revelation received by Sister Mary Ephrem, namely, the Indwelling of the Holy Trinity in the Christian home, which is the source of life and unity in the family. The coat of arms points to the purity and selflessness of love in the family, because of the Indwelling of the Holy Trinity, the model of which is the Mother of God, under her title of the Immaculate Conception, patroness of our nation. In a particular way, Our Lady of America expressed her desire that the United States of America, through her intercession, be devoted to the purity of love. She identified herself to Sister Mary Ephrem as "Our Lady of America, The Immaculate Virgin." In the consecration of our nation to our Blessed Mother, made in 1959 at the National Shrine and renewed, in our name, by Bishop David Ricken on November 11, 2006, the Saturday before the November meeting of our Conference of Bishops, our Blessed Mother is addressed as "Immaculate Virgin."

The contents of the private revelation received by Sister Mary Ephrem were published in a booklet, first in 1960, and, again, in 1971. Both of these editions were published with the Imprimatur of Archbishop Leibold. A final edition, with some new contents, was published in 1989. The new contents were added at the direction of Father Edmund Morman, S.V.D., the last chaplain of Our Lady of the Nativity Convent at New Riegel. Father Morman was sadly killed in an automobile accident on February 17, 1986.

As Archbishop of Cincinnati, Archbishop Leibold commissioned a wooden plaque with the image of Our Lady of America, which he gave to the cloister at New Riegel, at which it was displayed for many years in a public area. He had the wooden plaque created for the specific purpose of its use in processions at the New Riegel convent.

Archbishop Leibold also authorized the Weberding Woodcarving Shop at Batesville, Indiana, to carve a statue of Our Lady of America. The statue was carved for Our Lady of the Nativity Convent at New Riegel, Ohio, at which public devotions to Our Lady of America were regularly celebrated.

Other bishops have permitted the public display of a statue of Our Lady of America for devotion. For instance, the late Bishop William G. Connare of Greensburg permitted a statue to be displayed at the Carmel of the Assumption at Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Also, a statue of Our Lady of America was carried in procession in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., on several occasions by the Apostolatus Uniti and other groups. On May 31, 2006, a statue of Our Lady of America was enthroned at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of the Angels Monastery in Hanceville, Alabama, by the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate. The statue which was enthroned at Hanceville is the very same statue which Bishop Connare authorized for public devotion at Latrobe.

A specific request of Our Lady of America was that her statue be placed in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. There is a providential connection between Sister Mary Ephrem and the late Archbishop Bishop John Francis Noll of the Diocese of Fort Wayne, who is celebrated as the Apostle of the National Shrine. The principal apparitions of Our Lady of America to Sister Mary Ephrem took place in the chapel of the Precious Blood Sisters Convent in Kneipp Springs Sanitorium, near Rome City, Indiana. Archbishop Bishop Noll, who died in 1956, maintained a summer residence at the Sanitorium, within a few hundred feet of the place of the apparitions. While the National Shrine is the largest shrine in the world at which there was not a previous apparition, the private revelation to Sister Mary Ephrem very much confirms the mission of the National Shrine.

The prayer attached to the devotion also received the imprimatur of the then Monsignor Leibold, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Archbishop Leibold was Sister Mary Ephrem's spiritual director from the time that he was Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati until he died in1972. Archbishop Leibold was always clear that the approved devotion had its origin in private revelation received by Sister Mary Ephrem over many years.

What can be concluded canonically is that the devotion was both approved by Archbishop Leibold and, what is more, was actively promoted by him. In addition, over the years, other Bishops have approved the devotion and have participated in public devotion to the Mother of God, under the title of Our Lady of America.

Although the devotion to Our Lady of America has remained constant over the years, in recent years the devotion has spread very much and has been embraced by many with special fervor. Seemingly, as has been suggested by Father Peter Damian Mary Fehlner, F.I., in his homily of August 5, 2006, at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville, the moral crisis of our time, which demands a new teaching and living of the virtue of purity, has found an especially fitting response of loving care from the Mother of God in her message to Sister Mary Ephrem.

Some have raised with me the canonical question regarding the status of Our Lady of the Nativity Convent in Seneca County, Ohio, which has been the residence of any remaining member of the suppressed contemplative branch of the Congregation of Sisters of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus. In response, I observe that the canonical question has no bearing on the devotion or its approbation.

As one deeply devoted to fostering the devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe in our nation, I have wondered about the relationship of the devotion to Our Lady of America to the devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe. Archbishop Leibold, in fact, raised the question with Sister Mary Ephrem. Sister Mary Ephrem responded that Our Lady of Guadalupe is Empress of all the Americas, whereas "Our Lady of America, The Immaculate Virgin," is the patroness of our nation, the United States of America. The two devotions are, in fact, completely harmonious. As our late and most beloved Pope John Paul II reminded us, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of America and Star of the New Evangelization, draws all of the nations of America into unity in carrying out the new evangelization. Our Lady of America calls the people of our nation to the new evangelization through a renewed dedication to purity in love.

I hope that the above may be of some help to you in responding to questions regarding the devotion to Our Lady of America.

May the Immaculate Virgin intercede for the intentions of our dioceses and our nation. With fraternal gratitude and esteem, I remain

Yours devotedly in Christ,
(Most Rev.) Raymond L. Burke Archbishop of Saint Louis

Our Lady of America/Rome City, IN Apparitions & Miracles

The following two letters were submitted to CatholicPlanet.net back in May of 2007. VERY compelling! This was a very critical event which serves as a direct confirmation of Our Lady's plea to "Bring Me My Children. Bring Me ALL of My Children!"

It is worth repeating at this time.

Helen, Huntington, IN said...
I was told by Our Lord Jesus to "go to Rome City and wash in the waters" last night. This morning I asked friends of mine from Church if they would drive me to Rome City so I could do as I was instructed. I knew in my heart that I was to wash in the water from the Good Friday well.

I had been following the events of Our Lady of America and had always received great encouragement in Her messages. I had shared my books with my friends and so they were very understanding when I asked them to help me get there today.

We prayed a full rosary together as we drove along the highway. As we completed the Divine Mercy chaplet, we were in Kendallville and I could feel my pulse getting quicker with anticipation of being in Our Lady's presence.

When we arrived at Sylvan Springs, we did not see anyone around at first. Then we saw a man working on a tractor by one of the barns and we asked him where we would find the water. He took us down to the well and it was really shooting out of there. I'm surprised we missed it as we drove by the first time but we were so full of excitement as we drove in I guess it was only natural.

He told us how the water had started flowing on Good Friday and how many people were coming to get the water and that it was very refreshing and very safe to drink.

I proceeded to wash in it and drink freely. It was some of the most refreshing water I had ever tasted and I felt a feeling come over me instantly that seemed to free me from any worry or pain I had been carrying with me. Jesus took it all away. We all drank some more and filled some containers to take with us.

Then we went in to see the chapel where the apparitions took place and it was almost too much for us to imagine that Our Lady had been there,
in my own lifetime, and had given Sr. Neuzil these wonderful messages. I was standing right where She had been and I could hardly contain the emotion. We all began tearing up and prayed Hail Marys and asked for Her intercession in our lives to help us all. It was almost too emotional to describe.

As we were leaving, I suddenly realized that the man who was showing us around and being so kind to us was the owner Larry. He said he understood why we were there and that we were welcome to stay and pray as long as we needed. We talked about everything we felt the whole way home. I hope to return soon with more friends.

The fact that I am even typing this account is evidence that my terrible arthritic hands are working quite well this evening. I asked for my hands to be healed and Jesus was very good to this humble sinner today. Praise God and His Holy Name!

THE NEXT DAY, THIS LETTER WAS SUBMITTED:
Anonymous said...
I have spent most all of this day at Adoration trying to make sense of my last 24 hours and praying for an answer if I should even say anything. Late this afternoon I got my answer while in confession and so I know I need to tell everyone no matter what may happen.

I was part of a small group that visited Sylvan Springs yesterday when I was asked to drive a dear friend of ours to Rome City because she felt Jesus had told her to go and wash in the water there. I have known this woman for many years and very holy and inspired things have always happened to and through her so I did not hesitate when she asked for the ride. I knew she had to do it. She has already told her story here.

It is a beautiful place and the owners are doing a great job keeping it up and trying to preserve the feeling of it for Our Lord's work. When I entered the chapel
where the apparitions happened back in 1956 with Sr. M. Neuzil, I was met with a rush of wind across my face and I fell to my knees and rested in the spirit for what seemed like an eternity. This was a new sensation for me but I would have been happy to live that way the rest of my living days if I could.

The Virgin Mary appeared to me looking like Our Lady of America and she said "Thank you for bringing me my children". I was completely in a state of grace and could not say a word to anyone. I know now that I was crying, but at the time I was the most alive I have felt in all my life.

Our Lady is there and I felt her and saw her with my heart. She is waiting for us all and she does not care who you are or what you may have done. She is love and she wants us to know her son personally.

This is what I can say at this time and I know it all happened so quickly. I was not prepared for it. It shook me to my soul but I would be most happy to have that feeling all the time. If this is how heaven feels, I intend to do everything within my power to have that be my permanent feeling some day.

Do yourself a favor and make the trip and feel it for yourself. It was the best surprise I could have gotten.

Two High Profile Pro-Life Prelates Appointed to Key Vatican Post

ROME, October 19, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com)

Two prelates who are known for their vocal defence of life and family as well as the defence of traditional liturgical practices have been appointed to one of the most critical offices in the Catholic Church. Archbishop Raymond L. Burke and Antonio Cardinal Canizares Llovera and the current leader of the Church in St. Louis, have been appointed to serve in the Vatican's Congregation for Bishops, the group that oversees the selection of bishops around the world.

Archbishop Burke is well known both in the US and internationally as one of the foremost defenders of the unborn in the Catholic Church today. The former head of the archdiocese of St. Louis, Missouri, and now the Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura, the Vatican's highest tribunal, was among the handful of US bishops who enforced the Church's Code of Canon Law that says that those involved in abortion have ipso facto excommunicated themselves. Burke informed pro-abortion Catholic politicians that they were not allowed to receive Communion in any of the Catholic churches in his diocese and was vocally opposed to the appearance of President Barack Obama at the University of Notre Dame.

The influence of the new appointees could be long-lasting, with membership renewed every five years. With mandatory retirement from curial offices being 80 years, Burke, at 61, could remain active in the Congregation for nearly 20 years, allowing him to have significant impact on the direction of the Catholic Church worldwide.

Cardinal Canizares, another appointee to the Congregation for Bishops, who is currently the Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments and former head of the ancient archdiocese of Toledo in Spain, told LifeSiteNews.com in an interview in July that the withholding of Communion from pro-abortion politicians is a matter of pastoral concern for their souls.

"I think that the strongest words are found in St. Paul: one who goes to the Eucharist and is not properly prepared, duly prepared, 'he eats his own condemnation'. This is the strongest thing that we can say and what is the most truthful statement," he said.

A friend of Pope Benedict, Canizares has been nicknamed the Ratzingerino, or "Little Ratzinger." In 2006, responding to anti-family and anti-life legislation by the Zapatero socialist government in Spain, Cardinal Canizares took up one of Pope Benedict's themes against moral relativism, saying that without an objective moral standard, societies inevitably slide into totalitarianism.

The Accidental Photographer

This photo was captured by "accident" at the September 25 Day of Prayer and Healing in The Our Lady Mother of Mercy Chapel at the exact spot where Our Lady of America first appeared.

It is a reflection of the Our Lady of Lourdes statue on the back of a chair. It was taken accidentally by a visitor as she was walking through the chapel and bumped her camera.

What do you see?

Wrapup From October 13 Day of Prayer and Healing

Well, besides being a bit on the chilly side, the day went rather well for those who attended.

For those of you who have been asking, Patti Pope did very well in her speaking engagement and her story touched a few nerves of those in the audience. Hers is just one of the many personal journeys that have been made through these walls, but her faith and courage in bringing Mary's children to this place is without equal.
Thank you for sharing your story Patti. Maybe we will have time for you to get into more details on our next Day of Prayer and Healing.

Alex Fiato gave a wonderful lecture on the history of this property and the roles that the local bishops have played throughout its spiritual history. The number of Imprimaturs and statements that have been signed in the offices of this structure are astounding. So many special visitors, including Archbishop Fulton Sheen and Archbishop John Noll (two Archbishops who never sat in the chair of and Archdiocese) were frequent dinner guests of each other here as they stayed on weekend retreats together. The provenance is extremely compelling.

Irv Kloska and Larry Young also gave informative and formative talks and took questions from those gathered. The audience seemed well-informed and very concerned about the potential consequence of this property not being preserved for future guests and pilgrims. The feeling was genuine and the issues discussed were heartfelt.

Afterward, Irv Kloska met with all who wanted to be prayed over in The Our Lady Mother of Mercy Chapel where the apparitions took place. It was a very moving experience for those who gathered.

Before leaving, a number of pilgrims made their way to Holy Family Hill with their cameras and rosaries. They were received by a pleasant view of the spinning sun as it cast off an array of beautiful colors and pulsed like a heartbeat. We will do our best to post the photos for you here ASAP.

Please pray for the success of OLTIV in securing the necessary financial help to secure the property for use as a place of prayer and pilgrimage and as a home for retired priests and religious who can live in Catholic Community together and provide the pastoral care so necessary to those who visit.

Please pray for those in attendance at the EWTN Radio Conferences this week that they may see the wisdom in promoting the Our Lady of America devotion in all ways available to them.

WRITTEN AT THE BEHEST OF OUR LADY, OCTOBER 5, 1956

"Our Lady of America"
Prayer To The Immaculate Conception

Written in Sr. Mary Ephrem's room in the West Wing of what is now Sylvan Springs

O Immaculate Mother, Queen of our Country, open our hearts, our homes, and our land to the coming of Jesus, thy Divine Son. With Him, reign over us, O heavenly Lady, so pure and so bright with the radience of GOD's light shining in and about thee. Be our Leader against the powers of evil set upon wresting the world of souls, redeemed at such a great cost by the sufferings of thy son and of thyself, in union with Him, from that same Savior, Who loves us with infinite charity.
We gather about thee, O chaste and Holy Mother, Virgin Immaculate, Patroness of our beloved Land, determined to fight under thine banner of holy purity against the wickedness that would make all the world an abyss of evil, without GOD and without thy loving maternal care.

We consecrate our hearts, our homes, our land to thy MOST PURE HEART, O GREAT QUEEN, THAT THE KINGDOM OF THY SON, OUR REDEEMER AND OUR GOD, MAY BE FIRMLY ESTABLISHED IN US.

We ask no special sign of thee, sweet Mother, for we believe in thy great love for us, and we place in thee our entire confidence. We promise to honor thee by faith, love, and the purity of our lives according to thy desire.

Reign over us, then, O Virgin Immaculate, with thy Son Jesus Christ. May His Divine HEART AND THY MOST Chaste HEART BE EVER ENTHRONED AND GLORIFIED AMONG US. USE US, THY CHILDREN OF AMERICA, AS THY INSTRUMENTS IN BRINGING PEACE AMONG MEN AND NATIONS. WORK THY MIRACLES OF GRACE IN US, SO THAT WE MAY BE A GLORY TO THE BLESSED TRINITY, WHO CREATED, REDEEMED, AND SANTIFIES US.

MAY THY VALIENT SPOUSE, ST. JOSEPH, WITH THE HOLY ANGELS AND SAINTS, ASSIST THEE AND US IN "RENEWING THE FACE OF THE EARTH." THEN WHEN OUR WORK IS OVER, COME, HOLY IMMACULATE MOTHER, AND AS OUR VICTORIOUS QUEEN, LEAD US TO THE ETERNAL KINGDOM, WHERE THY SON, REIGNS FOREVER AS KING. AMEN.
